The University of Lynchburg baseball team had an eventful day on the road as they split a doubleheader with Ferrum on Saturday. In game one, Lynchburg dominated with a 14-1 victory, showcasing their offensive prowess with seven unanswered runs through the 5th inning. Quinn Madden and Sean Pokorak were standout performers, driving in multiple runs and hitting key home runs to secure the win.
Pitcher Wesley Arrington also had a stellar performance, striking out seven batters and earning his third win of the season. The Hornets seemed to be in control of the game from start to finish, with Trevor Loving adding an insurance run in the 9th inning to solidify the victory.
However, game two told a different story as Lynchburg fell short, losing 4-3 to Ferrum. Despite Quinn Madden’s three-run home run, the Panthers managed to mount a comeback and secure the win. Nick Mattfield put in a solid effort on the mound, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Ferrum’s late surge.
With this split, Lynchburg’s record stands at 18-9, with a 8-5 ODAC conference record. The team is currently ranked 17th in the d3baseball.com poll and will look to bounce back as they host Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Fans can stay updated on all Lynchburg sports news by visiting LynchburgSports.com and following the team on social media.
