Students and staff at Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) have banded together to take on the BRIT Challenge, a fundraiser aimed at supporting and improving mental health, fitness, and wellbeing for young adults, students, and staff across the UK.
The challenge involves participants working as a team to reach a target related to the number 24, in preparation for the BRIT Challenge in 2024. Since the beginning of the year, BCoT students and staff have taken on various challenges to raise money for the charity. This includes running 2.4 miles, performing 24 acts of kindness, and engaging in 24 minutes of activity a day for 24 days.
Tamara Smith, the Student Voice Coordinator, expressed her excitement at seeing the students and staff come together to tackle the challenges. She highlighted the creativity and teamwork displayed by different departments, with activities ranging from painting and carpentry to hospitality treat bags and pedal kart racing.
BCoT’s Principal and Chief Executive, Anthony Bravo OBE, praised the BRIT Challenge for providing students with valuable skills that will benefit them in their future careers. He emphasized the importance of pushing students outside their comfort zones, encouraging critical thinking, and fostering teamwork.
Throughout the competition, BCoT staff and students collectively achieved an impressive 2.1 million steps and raised over £300 for charity. The success of the challenge not only contributed to a worthy cause but also brought the college community closer together in a shared goal of promoting mental health and wellbeing.
