In a thrilling conclusion to the Indian Premier League 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged victorious, securing their third IPL title after a gap of 10 years. The final match saw KKR facing off against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium.

KKR’s all-round performance, led by Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell’s fiery spells with the ball, and a brilliant half-century by Venkatesh Iyer, helped them clinch the title with an eight-wicket victory over SRH. The opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma had been instrumental in SRH’s success throughout the tournament, but they were unable to replicate their magic in the final.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, SRH struggled against KKR’s bowling attack, with Starc proving his worth as the top buy of the season. Only skipper Pat Cummins and Aiden Markram managed to reach the 20-run mark as SRH was bundled out for 113 runs in 18.3 overs.

In response, KKR chased down the target in just 10.3 overs, with Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz leading the charge. Iyer’s unbeaten 52 and Gurbaz’s 39 ensured a comfortable victory for KKR.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressed his gratitude towards the ground staff for their hard work in providing excellent pitches throughout the tournament. As a token of appreciation, the groundsmen and curators at the IPL venues will receive monetary rewards for their dedication.

The 17th edition of the IPL concluded on a high note, with KKR emerging as deserving champions and the ground staff receiving well-deserved recognition for their efforts.
