In a thrilling conclusion to the Indian Premier League 2024, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged victorious, claiming their third IPL title after a gap of 10 years. The final match, held at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, saw KKR deliver a stellar performance, led by Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell’s fiery spells and a brilliant half-century by Venkatesh Iyer.

The match began with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) winning the toss and opting to bat first. However, KKR’s bowlers, especially Starc, wreaked havoc on the SRH batting lineup, restricting them to a mere 113 runs in 18.3 overs. Andre Russell was the standout bowler for KKR, finishing with figures of 3/19.

In response, KKR chased down the target of 114 runs in just 10.3 overs, with Iyer and Gurbaz leading the charge with their impressive batting performances. Iyer remained unbeaten on 52 runs, guiding KKR to a comfortable victory with eight wickets in hand.

The win was a testament to KKR’s all-round performance throughout the tournament, and it marked a memorable comeback for the team after a decade-long wait for the IPL title. The victory was celebrated by fans and players alike, with KKR’s triumph adding another chapter to the franchise’s rich history in the IPL.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressed his gratitude towards the ground staff for their exceptional work in maintaining top-quality pitches throughout the IPL season. As a token of appreciation, the groundsmen and curators at the IPL venues were rewarded with monetary incentives, highlighting their crucial role in the success of the tournament.
