Blue Earth Area School Board was treated to a showcase of student talent and creativity during their meeting on Monday, May 13. Art teachers Sara Albright and Morgan Franklin presented an update on the various art activities happening at the school, leaving the board members impressed.

Albright shared the success of the school’s art program, highlighting the 13 awards received by students at a recent art competition. She also spoke about the thriving BEA Art Club, which has seen significant participation from students who may not be involved in other extracurricular activities.

Franklin, the elementary art teacher, showcased the impressive work of her young students, including a staggering 3,900 art pieces posted on an online platform. She also mentioned the large number of clay projects being created by the students.

Both teachers emphasized the importance of creating an open and inclusive atmosphere in their art classes, allowing students to freely express themselves. Albright also provided an update on Frankie, the school’s therapy dog, who has become a beloved member of the school community.

In addition to the art presentation, the board discussed important matters such as the development of a proposal for a new K-6 school building and approved a Long-Term Facilities Maintenance Ten-Year Plan. They also accepted generous donations from various organizations for tennis uniforms and the Bucc-y Bag weekend meal program.

Personnel changes were also on the agenda, with new hires, retirements, and resignations being announced. The meeting concluded with the board passing a resolution to submit a proposal to the Commissioner of Education for review, a crucial step towards potentially financing a new school project through a November ballot question. The dedication and talent of the school’s art teachers and students were truly showcased during this engaging and informative meeting.
