Biden Affirms He Will Not Pardon His Son in Felony Gun Trial

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Biden made a rare comment on Thursday regarding his son Hunter Biden’s legal troubles, stating that he would not grant him a pardon if he was convicted in his felony gun trial. In an interview with ABC News, President Biden affirmed that he would accept the outcome of his son’s trial, where Hunter faces charges for lying on a gun application in 2018.

During the wide-ranging interview, President Biden also addressed his border policies and reiterated his support for a cease-fire in the Gaza conflict. The conversation shifted to former President Donald Trump, who was recently convicted on multiple felony counts. President Biden criticized Trump for undermining the rule of law and called for him to stop his attacks on the judiciary.

President Biden also took a jab at Trump’s criticism of his executive order on asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border, calling the former president “weak and pathetic.” He highlighted the White House’s efforts to secure bipartisan support for immigration funding and border security measures, which were ultimately rejected by Republicans influenced by Trump.

On the international front, President Biden discussed the ongoing conflict in Gaza and his efforts to broker a cease-fire. Despite recent violence, including an Israeli airstrike on a U.N. school complex, President Biden expressed confidence that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was still open to dialogue. He reiterated his support for a proposal that could lead to a permanent cessation of hostilities, although both Israel and Hamas have yet to fully commit to the plan.
