President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump have agreed to a series of televised debates leading up to the 2024 election, with both men eager to face off against each other once again. The proposal, put forth by the Biden campaign, includes two debates, one in June and another in October.

In a video released by his campaign, President Biden challenged Mr. Trump to a debate, highlighting that the former president had lost both debates during the 2020 election cycle. He also pointed out that Mr. Trump had not participated in any debates during the 2024 Republican primary, despite claiming that President Biden was avoiding a debate.

President Biden humorously stated, “Make my day, pal — I’ll even do it twice. So let’s pick the date!” He also mentioned that he heard Mr. Trump was free on Wednesdays, a reference to the ongoing criminal trial the former president is facing in New York City.

The proposed debates would bypass the nonpartisan commission that traditionally organizes presidential debates, with both campaigns negotiating the terms directly. The Biden campaign suggested the debates take place in a television studio without an audience, similar to the historic 1960 debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.

Both campaigns are working to finalize the details of the debates, with President Biden’s team proposing dates in June and September. Mr. Trump has accepted the offer and expressed his willingness to participate in the debates. The American public eagerly awaits these highly anticipated debates between two political heavyweights.
