Biden campaign capitalizes on Trump’s trial day by sharing reports of him sleeping in court

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign is seizing the opportunity to mock his 2024 rival Donald Trump, who has been dubbed “Sleepy Don” after reportedly falling asleep in a criminal courtroom. The former president was allegedly caught nodding off during jury selection in the hush money trial, the first-ever criminal trial against a sitting or former US president.

The Biden team is embracing this new nickname, as Trump had previously referred to Biden as “Sleepy Joe” during the campaign. They retweeted a video of a journalist describing Trump’s apparent dozing off in court, and even posted a meme poking fun at Trump’s late-night Truth Social posts while he is allegedly snoozing in court.

Despite the humorous jabs, Biden himself has remained silent on Trump’s legal troubles. When asked if he watched any of Trump’s trial, Biden reportedly shook his head, and the White House Press Secretary declined to comment on the trial’s historical significance.

The Trump campaign has vehemently denied the rumors of Trump falling asleep in court, calling it “100% Fake News.” However, the nickname “Sleepy Don” quickly gained traction on social media, with users joking about Trump’s alleged nap and questioning the whereabouts of his ally, “My Pillow Guy” Mike Lindell.

Trump is facing 34 counts of falsifying business records for allegedly paying porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about an affair. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and jury selection will continue on Tuesday morning. The ongoing trial is sure to keep the public captivated as the drama unfolds in the courtroom.
