Biden connects Ukraine’s defense to D-Day heroism, cautions against lingering ‘dark forces’: ‘We stand firm’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Joe Biden marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy with a powerful speech honoring the veterans who fought in World War II and drawing parallels to the current conflict in Ukraine. Speaking to a crowd that included dignitaries and nearly three dozen veterans of the Normandy landings, Biden praised the courage and sacrifice of those who fought against fascism in Europe.

Biden emphasized the importance of alliances and unity in the fight for freedom, democracy, and peace. He highlighted the bravery of the soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy, stating that they became heroes not because they were the strongest or toughest, but because they were willing to fight for what they believed in.

The President also took the opportunity to address the current situation in Ukraine, where Ukrainian soldiers are battling Russian aggression. He praised the Ukrainian people for their courage and resilience, vowing that America, NATO, and their allies would continue to stand up for Ukraine’s defense.

Biden’s speech served as a reminder of the ongoing struggle between dictatorship and democracy, aggression and freedom. He warned against isolationism and emphasized the importance of standing up to bullies and dictators.

As the world commemorated the anniversary of D-Day, Biden’s message resonated with the crowd, reminding them of the sacrifices made by past generations and the need to continue fighting for a better future.
