The White House Rejects Calls for President Biden to Testify in Impeachment Inquiry

In a bold move, the White House has rejected calls from House Republicans for President Joe Biden to testify in their impeachment inquiry. Special counsel to the president, Richard Sauber, penned a letter to House Intelligence Committee chair James Comer, labeling the invitation for the president to testify as a “partisan charade.”

House Republicans have been on a mission to find incriminating evidence against President Biden, alleging that he used his position to benefit his family and aid their foreign business dealings. However, Mr. Sauber’s letter dismissed these claims, stating that the president has done nothing wrong and accusing the committee of ignoring the facts.

The departure of Mr. Sauber from the White House next month may signal the end of House Republicans’ efforts to impeach President Biden. His tenure at the White House, which began in 2022, was focused on responding to congressional probes as Democrats faced the possibility of losing their majorities in Congress.

House Intelligence Committee chair James Comer had demanded that President Biden testify under oath about his family’s business dealings. Despite interviewing numerous witnesses, including Hunter Biden and James Biden, the committee has failed to produce any evidence linking the president to his family’s businesses or showing that he personally benefitted from their activities.

As the impeachment inquiry continues to unfold, the White House remains steadfast in its refusal to allow President Biden to testify, setting the stage for a contentious battle between the executive branch and House Republicans.
