Biden narrows the gap with Trump in the most recent Times/Siena Poll

In a recent survey conducted by The New York Times and Siena College, it has been revealed that President Biden has closed the gap with former President Donald J. Trump in early polling advantage. The survey shows that Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump are now virtually tied, with Mr. Trump holding a slight edge of 46 percent to 45 percent.

The survey indicates that Mr. Biden’s improved standing among traditional Democratic voters has contributed to his recent uptick in support. He is now winning a greater share of voters who supported him in 2020 compared to a month ago. On the other hand, Mr. Trump had secured more support from his past voters, but that margin has narrowed. Mr. Biden is now winning 89 percent of his 2020 supporters compared to 94 percent for Mr. Trump.

Despite the tightening poll results, many voters still have doubts about the direction of the country, the economy, and the age of both candidates. The survey also highlighted concerns about Mr. Biden’s age, with 69 percent of voters seeing him as too old to be an effective president. However, there has been a notable shift among voters over 65 who view Mr. Biden as too old, indicating a change in perception.

The survey also touched on key issues such as the economy, immigration, and foreign affairs, where Mr. Trump received higher ratings from voters. However, Mr. Biden was given better ratings on his ability to unite the nation and handle race relations and the pandemic.

As the 2024 election approaches, both campaigns are gearing up for a close contest, with the survey showing that even the smallest shifts in support could be decisive. The poll’s margin of error was 3.3 percent, indicating that the results should reflect the views of the overall population.
