Biden to Provide Israel with Over $1 Billion in New Weapons, Ignoring Netanyahu’s Rafah Plans

The Biden administration’s decision to send more than $1bn in new weapons to Israel despite its opposition to the invasion of Rafah in southern Gaza has sparked controversy and debate in Congress.

The US had previously paused a bomb shipment to Israel over concerns of civilian casualties in densely populated areas. However, the new package of weapons, including tank ammunition, tactical vehicles, and mortar rounds, has been sent for approval to Congress.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized the administration’s intention to spend all funds appropriated by Congress for national security purposes.

The decision to send more weapons to Israel comes amidst ongoing tensions in the region, with the White House emphasizing the importance of ensuring Israel’s ability to defend itself against its enemies, including Hamas.
