The Big Red baseball team’s impressive season came to an end on Monday in the district semifinals against New Philadelphia. Despite a strong effort, Steubenville fell to New Philly with a final score of 10-1 at Minerva’s Carl Michael Field.

Big Red, the No. 3 seed, finished the season with a record of 19-6. Head coach Fred Heatherington praised his team for their hard work and determination throughout the season, noting that they had a lot to be proud of.

The team bid farewell to four seniors – Aydan Manning, Bubby Reese, Martie Lovato, and Cal Beadling – who played key roles as multi-year starters. Heatherington commended the seniors for their leadership and the positive impact they had on the team.

Despite the loss, Big Red put up a fight, with Nolan Blackburn and Hayden Hicks delivering strong performances at the plate. Pitcher Aydan Manning, a Malone University signee, led the team on the mound, striking out two batters in 3 2/3 innings.

New Philadelphia’s Noah Bollon was a standout player in the game, driving in four runs to secure the victory for his team. The Quakers will now advance to the district final to face off against top-seeded St. Clairsville.

While the season may have ended sooner than they had hoped, the Big Red baseball team can look back on a successful season filled with growth and achievements. The team’s resilience and camaraderie were key factors in their success, and they will now turn their focus to preparing for the next season.
