Big Red’s Sabria Jones Commits to WVU Track Program

Steubenville’s own Sabria Jones, a standout senior athlete at Big Red High School, has officially committed to continuing her track career at West Virginia University. Jones, a multi-event state placer and talented sprinter and long jumper, signed her letter of intent during a special ceremony at the Crimson Commons on Friday morning.

Jones expressed her excitement about the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level, stating, “I’ve had a love for track since I was three years old. Being able to run at the next level has been my goal since I was younger.”

Coach Andy Kidwell praised Jones for her dedication and hard work, noting her impressive personal records in the 100m, 200m, and long jump events. He emphasized the significance of Jones’s commitment to a Power 5 program like WVU, highlighting her as a role model for future athletes in the program.

Jones plans to study forensic science at WVU, citing her interest in the field since a project she completed in seventh grade. She looks forward to joining the Mountaineers’ track team and pursuing her academic and athletic goals at the university.

Coming from a family with a strong tradition of athletic success, including her brother Brenten “Inky” Jones at Ohio State and former Big Red athletes Jorian and Nyasha Jones, Sabria is grateful for the support of her family, coaches, and friends throughout her journey.

With her commitment to WVU, Sabria Jones continues to make her mark in the world of track and field, representing Steubenville with pride and determination.
