Biker reveals how stroke turned their world upside down

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A motorcycle enthusiast from South Petherton, Somerset, Tim North, had his world turned upside down when he lost half of his eyesight after a stroke in August 2023. This incident led to the revocation of his driving license, leaving him feeling like he had lost a part of his identity.

In response to her husband’s struggles, Tim’s wife, Therena, organized a charity bike run with the help of biker John Bramble. The event, which will see around 100 bikers ride from Podimore Services in Somerset to Ace Cafe in London, aims to raise funds for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and the air ambulance.

Therena described the night of the stroke as a moment when their lives were “rocked upside down,” emphasizing the importance of trusting one’s instincts and seeking medical help promptly. Tim expressed the financial challenges he faced after losing his job as a carpenter and builder, leading to the decision to sell their home.

Despite the hardships, the couple remains determined to give back to those who supported them during their difficult times. Tim highlighted the significance of the biking community in his life, stating that even though he can’t ride at the moment, he still considers himself a biker at heart.

Doctors have given Tim hope that his eyesight may improve, but in the meantime, he is grateful for the support of his wife and the biking community. The couple hopes that the charity bike run will raise awareness and encourage others to seek medical help if they experience any loss of eyesight or hearing.
