Bill Walton, NBA Champion, Hall of Famer, and Star Broadcaster, Passes Away at 71

Basketball legend Bill Walton, known for his stellar career at UCLA and in the NBA, passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with cancer. The news was confirmed by the league on behalf of his family.

Walton, a two-time NCAA champion and three-time national player of the year at UCLA, went on to have a successful NBA career despite being plagued by chronic foot injuries. He was named the NBA MVP in the 1977-78 season and was a two-time NBA champion. Walton was also honored as a member of the NBA’s 50th and 75th anniversary teams.

His most memorable game came in the 1973 NCAA title game, where he shot an incredible 21 for 22 from the field and led UCLA to victory. His impact on the game was undeniable, and he was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.

Known for his larger-than-life personality, Walton was also a prominent figure in basketball broadcasting after his playing days. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver described him as “truly one of a kind.”
