Pequot Lakes Patriots and Pine River-Backus Tigers Shine in Golf Invites

GRAND RAPIDS — The Pequot Lakes Patriots and Pine River-Backus Tigers showcased their golfing talents in separate invites on Tuesday, April 23.

Genevieve Birkeland led the way for the Pequot Lakes Patriots, firing a first-place 75 at the Grand Rapids Invite held at Pokegama Golf Course. Birkeland’s impressive performance, which included two birdies and four bogeys, helped the Patriots secure second place overall. Annie Neva also had a strong showing, finishing in fifth place with a 6-over 78. The team’s collective effort resulted in a team score of 325, just behind Detroit Lakes who finished with 309.

Meanwhile, in Park Rapids, the Pine River-Backus Tigers put on a solid display at the Northern Pines Conference meet. Lyric Aulie led the Tigers with a fifth-place finish, carding a 101. The team finished in second place with a total score of 455, behind Park Rapids who scored 401.

Both teams are looking ahead to their next challenges, with the Pequot Lakes Patriots set to host the Granite Ridge Conference meet at Crosswoods on Thursday, April 25, while the Pine River-Backus Tigers will compete in the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Invite at Tiana Country Club on the same day.

Overall, it was a successful day for both teams, showcasing their talent and determination on the golf course.
