The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks softball team is gearing up for a new season after a challenging 2023 campaign. With a 2-18 record last year, the team is looking to turn things around with the help of key returners like Alli Estling and Madalyn Wente.

One of the main focuses for the Blackjacks this season will be improving their pitching. Last year, the team struggled defensively, allowing 10 or more runs in nine games. Despite their strong offense, they couldn’t keep up with their opponents on the scoreboard.

Estling, a standout player who earned an Independent All-Area First Team selection, will be a key player to watch this season. With a .492 batting average and 1.293 OPS last year, she will be a crucial asset at the plate.

Joining Estling in the lineup are Madalyn Wente and Madison Peterson, both of whom earned All-Area Second Team honors for their consistent hitting. With strong offensive performances from these players, the Blackjacks are hoping to improve their record this season.

Under the leadership of new head coach Josh Dorn, the Blackjacks are looking to make a fresh start. With a group of senior leaders on the team, including Estling, Peterson, and Larson, the team is poised for success this season.

The Blackjacks will face off against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in their first road game of the season on Thursday. With a renewed focus on pitching and a talented lineup of players, the team is ready to take on the competition and make a statement in the league.
