Blanco of Houston Pitches First No-Hitter of the Season in 10-0 Victory Against Toronto in the Majors

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Ronel Blanco of the Houston Astros made history on Monday night by throwing the first no-hitter in the major leagues this season, shutting out the Toronto Blue Jays 10-0. The right-hander struck out seven batters and walked only two, making quick work of the Blue Jays lineup.

This impressive performance marked the 17th no-hitter in Astros history and the first in the majors since last year. Blanco, who had never pitched a complete game as a professional, was making only his eighth major league start and had never pitched more than six innings before.

The Astros offense also came alive in this game, with Kyle Tucker and Yainer Diaz each hitting two home runs to provide the necessary run support. Houston’s Joe Espada made history as the first manager to get his first win in a no-hitter.

Blanco’s dominant pitching was complemented by solid defensive plays, including a crucial play in the ninth inning when first baseman Jose Abreu made a diving stop and threw to Blanco covering first for the out.

The Astros tagged Toronto’s Bowden Francis for 10 hits and seven runs in his first major league start, setting the tone early in the game. With this commanding victory, the Astros secured their first win of the season after a tough series against the Yankees.

Overall, Blanco’s no-hitter was a remarkable feat that will be remembered as a standout moment in the Astros’ season.
