Secretary of State Antony Blinken Denies US Involvement in Israeli Drone Strike on Iran
During a news conference in Capri at a Group of Seven (G7) ministerial meeting, Secretary of State Antony Blinken made it clear that the United States played no role in an Israeli drone strike on Iran. The strike was believed to be retaliation for an Iranian strike on Israel the previous week.
Mr. Blinken repeatedly declined to answer questions about the Israeli strike, instead emphasizing that the US was not involved in any offensive operations. He stated, “What we’re focused on, what the G7 is focused on, is our work to de-escalate tensions and conflicts.”
The Israeli government has not publicly commented on the retaliatory strike on the Iranian city of Isfahan, which houses a major nuclear site. The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that there was no damage to any nuclear facility.
In response, Iranian state media downplayed the incident’s significance and indicated that Iran would not respond in kind. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who chaired the G7 meeting, revealed that the US was informed by Israel at the last minute about the drone attack but did not participate in it.
The situation remains tense as global leaders work to prevent further escalation in the region. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
