Blue Devils and Wolves Co-Share WB6 Tennis Title, Pirates Eliminated in Districts

The Quincy High School boys tennis team showcased their talent at the Western Big 6 Conference championships, holding their own against the formidable Rock Island Alleman team led by junior Nick Patrick. Despite Patrick’s continued dominance, the Blue Devils managed to secure enough team points to share the conference title with Alleman.

With two singles players placing in the top four and the doubles tandem of Anderson Knapp and Jason Derian finishing third, Quincy High School proved they were a force to be reckoned with. Ethan Stark took third place in singles, while teammate Trevor Nelson claimed fourth.

In other sports news, the Hannibal girls soccer team faced a heartbreaking loss in their Class 3 District 4 tournament opener against Fort Zumwalt East. Despite building a two-goal lead, Hannibal was unable to hold off their opponents, ending their season with a 20-3-2 record.

On the baseball diamond, the Illini West Chargers continued their hot streak with a 7-2 victory over Hannibal, denying them the chance to reach the 20-victory plateau for the first time in school history. The Chargers, now 25-4, have won eight consecutive games and are carrying that momentum into the postseason.

Meanwhile, the Pittsfield baseball team reached the 20-victory plateau with a commanding 16-1 win over Pleasant Hill, thanks in part to Konner Allen’s grand slam and Hayden Gratton’s five RBIs. And in a thrilling 11-inning affair, the Pleasant Hill softball team emerged victorious over Carlinville with Ava Wombles scoring the winning run on an error in the top of the 11th inning.
