Disney CEO Bob Iger recently made a statement emphasizing the company’s focus on entertainment rather than advancing any political agenda. During the annual shareholder meeting, Iger expressed that Disney’s primary goal is to entertain and tell great stories that have a positive impact on the world.

Iger stated, “Our job is to entertain first and foremost, and by telling great stories, we continue to have a positive impact on the world and inspire future generations.” He emphasized Disney’s commitment to being a source of hope, joy, and optimism for people of all ages, while also reflecting the world around us through storytelling.

The CEO’s comments come in response to proposals from shareholders urging Disney to either stay out of progressive politics or be more progressive in its political affiliations. Despite these proposals, both failed after votes by shareholders.

Disney has been involved in high-profile political disputes, particularly in Florida, where the company clashed with the state over the “Don’t Say Gay” law. The company filed a lawsuit against the state and pulled plans for a major office complex in Orlando, leading to a recent settlement between the two parties.

Activist investor Nelson Peltz, whose bid for two seats on the Disney board was unsuccessful, accused the company of pursuing a “woke” film strategy with movies like “Black Panther” and “The Marvels.” Disney defended its approach, highlighting the success of Marvel films under Kevin Feige’s leadership.

Iger’s remarks at the shareholder meeting echo his previous statements about the importance of entertainment over messaging. He emphasized the need for creators to prioritize entertainment and storytelling above all else.
