Azusa Pacific Men’s Tennis Coach Mark Bohren Named ITA National Coach of the Year

After a remarkable season on the court, Azusa Pacific University’s men’s tennis head coach, Mark Bohren, has been recognized as the Men’s Tennis Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Coach of the Year. Bohren, who has been leading the program since 1996, received this prestigious honor for the first time in his career.

Director of Athletics Gary Pine praised Bohren, stating, “Mark is such a deserving recipient of this national award. For nearly 30 years, Mark has served the Azusa Pacific community by investing so much into building the tennis programs.”

Under Bohren’s guidance, the men’s tennis team had a historic season, achieving a 23-match win streak from February to May, the longest under Bohren’s leadership. The team finished the season with a remarkable 23-1 record, securing the PacWest title for the third consecutive year and advancing to the NCAA National tournament.

Bohren’s coaching prowess was further recognized as he was named the 2024 West Region Coach of the Year and the PacWest Coach of the Year. Additionally, two of his players, Elias Emilio Walter and Soeren Grandke, received regional awards and All-PacWest honors for their outstanding performances.

With an overall record of 588-158 (.788) during his 28-year tenure, Bohren has led the Azusa Pacific men’s tennis team to 10 consecutive national postseason appearances since joining DII in 2015. His impressive coaching resume includes four PacWest titles, 32 All-PacWest players, and multiple Coach of the Year accolades.

Bohren’s dedication and leadership have not only elevated the men’s tennis program at Azusa Pacific but have also fostered a culture of excellence and success among his student-athletes.
