The Lake Placid baseball team showed their resilience and determination in Saturday’s Section VII, Class D semifinal game against Crown Point. After giving up an early lead, the Blue Bombers rallied to score nine straight runs in the second inning, ultimately defeating the Panthers 14-4.

Coach Brian Brandes expressed confidence in his team’s ability to come back from the deficit, stating, “We’re confident that at some point we could match (Crown Point’s energy).” Pitcher Vann Morrelli echoed this sentiment, quoting the late Kobe Bryant by saying, “The job’s not finished.”

With the win, Lake Placid secures a spot in the Section VII, Class D Championship game for the second consecutive year. The team will face off against the Bolton Eagles at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Chip Cummings field on Wednesday.

The Blue Bombers’ offensive prowess was on full display, with all nine starters reaching base at least once and recording nine hits in the game. Morrelli, Jon Caito, and Will Landriault each had two hits, while Jarrett Mihill, Hyler Isham, and Owen Thomsen contributed with one hit each.

Despite Crown Point’s efforts, Lake Placid’s strong performance on both offense and defense proved too much to overcome. Morrelli pitched six solid innings, allowing five hits, walking nobody, and striking out 10 batters. The team’s success is a testament to their hard work and dedication, with a record of 31-2 in league play over the last three seasons.

As they prepare for the championship game, the Blue Bombers remain focused on their ultimate goal of defending their crown and continuing their impressive winning streak.
