‘Booming Boomers: Discovering Brussels’ Biggest Nightclub’

In a heartwarming display of age-defying fun, Jeanine, 79, and 10 other elderly residents from three nursing homes in Brussels took the city’s largest night club by storm. Despite Jeanine’s preference for old-time tunes over today’s “boom boom” music, she couldn’t resist hitting the dance floor with her fellow pensioners.

The group ended up partying at the “Lift Brussels” night club until the early hours of 3.30 am, relishing the vibrant atmosphere and letting loose like they hadn’t in years. Jeanine, who hadn’t been to a club in three decades, described the evening as “extraordinary” and was amazed by the experience.

Organized by the non-profit association Papy Booom, the outing was part of a series of unconventional activities aimed at keeping retired individuals active and combating the loneliness that often accompanies old age. The association’s motto, “Happiness overcomes old age,” encapsulates their mission to bring joy and vitality to the elderly.

Led by founder Youssef Kaddar, Papy Booom offers a range of activities beyond clubbing, including makeovers, coffee outings, and even limousine rides. The goal is to help seniors rediscover a sense of purpose and connection in their lives, breaking free from the monotony of traditional nursing home activities.

As participant Simone Nestor, 81, put it, these experiences allow them to “live again” and feel a renewed sense of existence. Through their innovative programs, Papy Booom is empowering the elderly to embrace life to the fullest and engage with the world around them in new and exciting ways.
