Boosters Show Passion for Team: Behind the Curve | News, Sports, Jobs

The Altoona Curve Booster Club is a vital support system for the players of the minor league team, providing assistance with travel, community outreach, and overall acclimation to the region. Founded in 2005, the club has a rich history of helping players dating back to the team’s inception in 1999.

One of the club’s founders, John Prosperi, recognized the need to support players early on, even before the official formation of the booster club. Along with other dedicated individuals like Duane Bordell and the late John Austin, Prosperi saw the challenges players faced, including finding housing and adjusting to a new community.

Players like Chris Snusz, who stayed with host families like the Strongs before the booster club was established, speak highly of the support they received. The boosters not only provided housing but also organized events like the annual bowling event to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, player appreciation dinners, and spring training trips.

With nearly 200 members, the booster club continues to play a crucial role in the Altoona Curve community. Their dedication to supporting players and raising awareness of the team is evident in their ongoing efforts. The club’s impact extends beyond just housing, as they also raise funds for charity and organize events to engage fans and players alike.

As the Altoona Curve prepares for a homestand series against the Portland Sea Dogs, the support of the booster club remains a key component of the team’s success. Their commitment to creating a welcoming environment for players and fostering community spirit is a testament to the power of dedicated fans and supporters in the world of minor league baseball.
