The No. 1 Boston University men’s tennis team made history by winning their first Patriot League championship title in a thrilling match against No. 2 Navy. The match took place at the U.S. Military Academy’s Malek Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon.
Navy started strong by claiming the doubles point, but Boston University fought back with impressive performances in the singles matches. Corey Craig, Alejandro Licea, Gustavs Dambins, and Jakob Esterowitz all secured crucial wins for the Terriers. Esterowitz’s victory on court two ultimately clinched the championship for Boston University.
Corey Craig was named the Championship MVP and received the Joe Abrahamson Memorial Award for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
With this win, Boston University secured the League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship. The team will eagerly await the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Monday, April 29, to learn their destination and opponent.
