The State College Area High School boys tennis team is on a winning streak after a heartbreaking loss in the 2023 finals served as motivation for the 2024 season. The team secured a spot in the PIAA Class 3A tournament with a 3-0 victory over Hollidaysburg, following a similar win against Altoona.
Coach Jane Borden expressed pride in the team’s hard work and determination, highlighting the significance of redemption after last year’s defeat. The players, including singles standout Will Liu and doubles champion Mark Sandow, showcased their skills and resilience on the court.
Despite a close match, State College managed to dominate their opponents and secure the win. Liu’s strategic play and Sandow’s strong performance were key factors in the team’s success. The victory marked Hollidaysburg’s first loss in 19 matches, further emphasizing State College’s impressive achievement.
The team’s offseason dedication and participation in USTA tournaments have strengthened their roster and improved their overall performance. With a well-rounded lineup and a cohesive team dynamic, State College has proven to be a formidable opponent on the court.
As they head into the PIAA tournament with an undefeated record, the Little Lions are determined to continue their winning streak and claim the championship title. The players’ hard work and commitment have paid off, setting the stage for an exciting and successful season ahead.
