Colgate University’s Information and Technology Support (ITS) Desk: A Lifeline for Students During Finals Week

As finals week approaches at Colgate University, students are gearing up for the inevitable chaos that comes with last-minute studying and printing. The third floor of the Case-Geyer Library becomes a battleground of stressed-out students frantically printing notes and assignments. However, amidst the frenzy, there is a beacon of hope located right in the heart of the library – Colgate’s Information and Technology Support (ITS) desk.

Operated by students, for students, the ITS desk provides essential services and assistance to those in need. From troubleshooting printer issues to loaning out equipment like computer chargers and Chromebooks, the ITS desk is a vital resource for students navigating the technological challenges of college life.

One such student, sophomore Andrew Kang, has found fulfillment in his role at the ITS desk, where he not only assists with technical maintenance but also provides support and guidance to his peers. Kang’s dedication to helping others highlights the collaborative and supportive environment fostered by the ITS department.

In addition to the ITS desk, the Digital Learning and Media Center (DLMC) offers a space for students to explore creativity and innovation through its computer lab, studio, and classroom resources. Mentors at the DLMC provide guidance on a range of technical skills, from video editing to equipment rentals, ensuring that students have access to the tools they need to succeed.

For students like junior Ava Benton and senior Tom Richards, working at the ITS desk has not only provided valuable experience but also a sense of community and camaraderie. The opportunity to learn from peers and help fellow students navigate the complexities of technology has made their roles both rewarding and fulfilling.

Whether students need assistance with a technical issue or simply want to improve their skills, Colgate’s ITS desk is there to support them every step of the way. By offering a helping hand and a friendly face during the stressful time of finals week, the ITS desk plays a crucial role in easing the burden on students and ensuring their success.
