Dick Bremer, the former Minnesota Twins TV broadcaster, will be the featured speaker at the Brainerd Elks Fishing Fling on Wednesday, May 8, at the Brainerd National Guard Armory. Bremer, a 1974 Staples High School graduate, shared stories of his upbringing in the small town of Dumont, where his love for fishing and hunting was cultivated at a young age.
Despite his humble beginnings, Bremer went on to have a successful 40-year broadcasting career with the Twins. He recently announced his retirement from Bally Sports in 2023. The Twins honored him by inviting him to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the home opener at Target Field and unveiling the Dick Bremer TV Booth in the press box.
Reflecting on his career, Bremer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to broadcast games for his hometown team. He credited his speech teacher for encouraging him to pursue broadcasting after being cut from the St. Cloud State University baseball team.
As he looks forward to retirement, Bremer plans to spend more time at his lake home in central Minnesota, enjoying activities like swimming, boating, and fishing. He also intends to play for a senior league baseball team near his home and participate in the Twins Fantasy Camp in Florida during the winter.
The Brainerd Elks Fishing Fling event will include a social hour, dinner, program, and prizes, with proceeds benefiting the Elks Youth Activities Fund. Tickets are available for $75, and interested individuals can contact a Brainerd Elks member or the Elks Lodge for more information. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a broadcasting legend and support a good cause!
