Leo Brent Bozell IV, a member of a prominent conservative activist family, has been sentenced to 45 months in prison for his involvement in the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol. Bozell was found guilty of pushing past police, breaking a windowpane in the Senate building, chasing a Capitol Police officer, and entering both Nancy Pelosi’s office and the Senate floor during the riot.

Prosecutors argued that Bozell played a significant role in facilitating access to the Capitol for hundreds of other rioters, ultimately contributing to the chaos and violence that unfolded that day. While the government sought a sentence of over 11 years, the federal judge ultimately handed down a 45-month sentence, stating that a terrorism enhancement was not appropriate in this case.

During the sentencing hearing, Bozell apologized for his actions, acknowledging the impact it has had on his family and expressing remorse for his involvement in the insurrection. The judge condemned Bozell’s conduct, emphasizing that the January 6 rioters should not be considered true patriots and are not political prisoners.

Bozell’s sentence also includes restitution of $4,727. The 44-year-old Pennsylvania man was convicted on 10 charges related to his participation in the Capitol riot. The Bozell family has a history of involvement in right-wing politics, with previous generations playing significant roles in conservative activism and media critique.
