Nigel Farage, the honorary president of Reform UK, has raised concerns about the World Health Organisation (WHO) potentially gaining new powers that could allow it to enforce lockdowns during pandemics. In a recent interview on GB News, Farage discussed the WHO’s proposal for a pandemic treaty that would be legally binding on all 194 member states.

Farage expressed his worries about the WHO being able to take control of 20% of a country’s PPE and vaccines to distribute to poorer nations, as well as the authority to declare a global pandemic and mandate lockdowns. He emphasized the need for public awareness and engagement on this issue, launching a petition to ensure that the government does not sign the treaty without proper discussion.

The WHO is aiming to finalize the pandemic treaty in May, but Farage is determined to push back against what he sees as a power grab by the organization. He believes that decisions of this magnitude should not be left to a bureaucratic entity and is calling for a thorough parliamentary debate before any agreements are made.

Farage’s concerns are shared by some in the UK government, as The Telegraph reported that Britain is hesitant to sign the treaty due to fears that it could undermine the country’s sovereignty. As discussions on the WHO’s new powers continue, the global community must come together to address the implications of granting such authority to the organization.
