Brighton Area Schools prepares for renovations as summer approaches

As the school year comes to a close, Brighton Area Schools is gearing up for two major renovation projects that will enhance the learning environment for students and staff.

The first project is a $2.03 million renovation of the east wing at the Brighton Education and Community Center, which houses the district’s alternative high school, community education department, and administrative offices. This renovation will include the installation of new windows and a new internal HVAC system. Despite the construction, summer programming will not be impacted. However, due to delays in materials arrival, the project timeline will extend into the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year.

Meanwhile, students at The Bridge Alternative High School will temporarily relocate to the north wing of the building in August and move into renovated classrooms as the work progresses. District Superintendent Matt Outlaw assured that no school classes or student programming will be affected by the renovations.

The second project involves updating all bathrooms at Hilton Elementary School, with renovations set to begin in mid-June and conclude just before the fall semester starts. The cost of this project is $527,000, and Outlaw confirmed that there will be no summer programming at Hilton Elementary this year to accommodate the construction.
