Indonesia’s Potential in AI Development Highlighted by BRIN Official

Surakarta, Central Java – The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has emphasized Indonesia’s great potential in contributing to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology through its human capital. BRIN Steering Committee member Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo stated that while Indonesia has the talent and capability, the government needs to do more to enhance the AI development ecosystem in the country.

During a discussion at Solo Technopark (STP), Kisworo highlighted the need for the government to provide incentives and ensure the availability of digital and internet technology infrastructure to support AI development. He also pointed out the significant contributions of Indonesian scientists to global technology development, citing the example of an Indonesian scientist who was involved in the creation of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition to creating a conducive research and development environment, Kisworo urged the government to guarantee research funding and intellectual property rights for researchers. He emphasized the importance of protecting the intellectual property rights of those who create new works.

BRIN is committed to facilitating Indonesian scientists in developing new technology, with plans to provide research facilities free of charge for young researchers. Kisworo also encouraged STP to follow BRIN’s example and provide a platform for young researchers to develop their ideas and potentially start their own companies.

As Indonesia aims to become a key player in AI technology development, the government and research institutions like BRIN and STP are working together to support and nurture the country’s human capital in this field.
