Broncos acquire QB Zach Wilson in trade with Jets

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The New York Jets have made a bold move by trading quarterback Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a sixth-round pick. This trade comes after Wilson’s tumultuous three seasons with the Jets, where he struggled to live up to expectations as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Wilson’s time in New York was marred by poor play and multiple benchings, culminating in a disappointing 2023 season where the Jets finished 7-10 and missed the playoffs. Despite getting a chance to start after Aaron Rodgers’ injury, Wilson failed to impress and now finds himself with a fresh start in Denver.

The Broncos, who recently released Russell Wilson, are in need of a starting quarterback after elevating Jarrett Stidham to the top of their depth chart. Stidham, a four-year NFL veteran with limited starting experience, will now compete with Wilson for the starting job in Denver.

Wilson’s arrival in Denver brings more starting experience to the Broncos, but his performance in New York leaves much to be desired. With a career completion percentage of 57% and more interceptions than touchdowns, Wilson will need to prove himself in a new environment.

As the Broncos look to address their quarterback situation further in the upcoming NFL Draft, Wilson’s acquisition represents a low-risk move that could pay off if he can finally live up to his potential. Broncos fans will be eagerly watching to see if Wilson can turn his career around in Denver and lead the team to success in the 2024 season.
