West Virginia University (WVU) faced a critical decision when quarterback coach Sean Reagan departed for Troy, leaving a void in the coaching staff. Head coach Neal Brown needed to find a replacement who could elevate the passing game for quarterbacks Garrett Greene and Nicco Marchiol. Instead of opting for an experienced coach, Brown turned to Tyler Allen, a young coach with whom he had a history.
Allen’s journey to WVU was unconventional, starting as a student assistant at LSU before being let go by head coach Ed Orgeron. Fortunately, Matt Canada, then at Troy, offered Allen a coaching position, leading to his eventual reunion with Brown at WVU.
Since joining the Mountaineers, Allen has made a significant impact on Greene and Marchiol. Greene’s mechanics have improved, and Marchiol has shown tremendous growth, earning praise from Brown as the most improved player on the offense.
As Greene prepares to lead the team, Marchiol is also gearing up for a potential starting role, with both quarterbacks expected to elevate their game under Allen’s guidance. The pressure is on for both players to perform at a higher level, with Brown emphasizing the increased expectations both inside and outside the program.
With Allen’s mentorship and coaching expertise, WVU’s quarterback duo is poised for success in the upcoming season. As Greene and Marchiol continue to develop under Allen’s guidance, the Mountaineers are hopeful for a strong performance on the field.
