West Virginia University (WVU) faced a critical decision when quarterback coach Sean Reagan departed for Troy, leaving a void in the coaching staff. Head coach Neal Brown needed to find a replacement who could elevate the passing game for quarterbacks Garrett Greene and Nicco Marchiol. Instead of opting for an experienced coach, Brown turned to Tyler Allen, a young coach with whom he had a history.

Allen’s journey to WVU was unconventional, starting as a student assistant at LSU before being let go by head coach Ed Orgeron. Fortunately, Matt Canada, then at Troy, offered Allen a coaching position, leading to his eventual reunion with Brown at WVU.

Since joining the Mountaineers, Allen has made a significant impact on Greene and Marchiol. Greene’s mechanics have improved, and Marchiol has shown tremendous growth, earning praise from Brown as the most improved player on the offense.
