Bruin girls dominate Trico track meet | Sports

Columbia High School’s girls track and field team showcased their talent and depth at a recent Trico League meet in Castle Rock, where they dominated with 62 points and six event wins.

Senior Jessica Polkinghorn led the charge by winning both the shot put and discus, setting a personal best in the latter event. Her impressive throws of 38 feet, 6 inches in shot put and 113-0 in discus secured her victories. Teammate Madeline Allen also contributed with fourth-place finishes in both events.

Saylor Hauge shined in the high jump and 300 hurdles, claiming victory in both events. She cleared 4-10 in the high jump and clocked a time of 51.19 seconds in the hurdles, despite it being her first time running the event in a meet. Hauge, along with her teammates, also triumphed in the 4×100 meter relay.

Other standout performances came from Sara Miller, who won the long jump and placed third in the 100 meters. Junior Amya Shaw secured a win in the triple jump, while sophomore Hailey Tolbert triumphed in the high hurdles.

The team’s distance runners also excelled, with freshman Leah Zimmerman winning the 1600 meters and placing second in the 800 meters. The boys team was led by Luke Harrison’s personal record in the discus and strong performances from Ezekiel Wilson Ramirez and Wongani Schlegel.

Overall, Columbia High School’s track and field team demonstrated their versatility and talent, setting the stage for a successful season ahead.
