BSU professor to assist in founding education center in Ghana

Ball State University’s Michael T. Ndemanu, an associate professor of multicultural education and social foundations, has been awarded the prestigious Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship. This fellowship, offered by the Institute of International Education, will allow Ndemanu to spend two months in Ghana collaborating with faculty and students from the University of Cape Coast to establish a Center for Transformative Education.

The goal of the center is to advance educational practices and create new opportunities for community engagement and learning. Ndemanu’s work at Ball State focuses on transformative education, multicultural education, and social foundations in education.

In other news, the Community Foundation announced the recipients of several scholarships for 2024. Belle Brown, a senior at Delta High School, received the Sarah E. Adams Scholarship and plans to study fashion industry with a minor in business at Ball State University. Other recipients include Sharon Edwards, Abigail Goller, Carly Howard, Abigail Lindburgh, Jonathan Loney, Ella Mauck, Brenley Miller, Andrea Sanchez, and Alana Trissel.

Additionally, Cornfed Roller Derby will host the fourth annual Smalltown Smackdown roller derby tournament on June 8 and 9 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. The two-day event will feature seven games on Saturday and five games on Sunday, culminating in a championship game.
