Budenholzer reflects on his time in Arizona before shifting focus to leading the Suns into the future

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Mike Budenholzer, the new head coach of the Phoenix Suns, expressed a mix of emotions during his introductory press conference in downtown Phoenix on Friday. The 54-year-old coach, who grew up in the small town of Holbrook, Arizona, became teary-eyed when reminiscing about his childhood in the state. However, his tears quickly turned to excitement when discussing his future with the Suns.

Budenholzer takes over from Frank Vogel, who was fired after a disappointing season that saw the team fall short in the playoffs. With a roster boasting All-Star players like Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, Budenholzer is eager to lead the team to championship contention.

Having previously coached the Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA title in 2021, Budenholzer brings a wealth of experience to the Suns. Despite his successful coaching career, he took a break from coaching last season to focus on his family, a decision he cherished.

As he embarks on reshaping the Suns roster, Budenholzer acknowledges the challenges ahead, particularly in addressing the team’s need for a point guard and reducing turnovers. Despite the obstacles, Budenholzer is enthusiastic about the opportunity to coach the Suns and is determined to make the most of it.

In his closing remarks, Budenholzer expressed his unwavering commitment to the team, stating that he would coach the Suns no matter where they were located. With a strong sense of purpose and dedication, Budenholzer is ready to lead the Suns on their quest for a championship.
