The Tasmanian Government and the state’s technology industry have joined forces in a groundbreaking partnership aimed at boosting skills and workforce development in the sector. The signing of the latest Industry Skills Compact marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the Australian Computer Society’s Tasmanian Branch, TasICT, and the Tasmanian Government.
Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, emphasized the importance of future-proofing the technology sector, which is estimated to be worth over $1.5 billion and employs nearly 10,000 people. With rapid advancements in areas like AI, cyber security, and Internet of Things technology, the need for a responsive and job-focused training system is more crucial than ever.
Under the agreement, the Australian Computer Society’s Tasmanian Branch will work on developing career awareness programs in schools to cultivate a pipeline of future tech workers. Minister Ellis highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting industry-led workforce development and providing training that meets the needs of local businesses.
The partnership also aligns with the Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s ICT future, which includes initiatives such as supporting TasICT with funding for cyber security conferences, delivering the Cyber Hubs Initiative, and implementing the Digital Health Transformation Program.
Overall, the collaboration between the Tasmanian Government and the technology industry is seen as a key step towards future-proofing Tasmania’s economy and ensuring that the state remains at the forefront of technological innovation.
