Reading Time: < 1 minute

Yale’s tennis teams had an eventful weekend as they faced off against Columbia University and Cornell University. The men’s team, ranked 68th, hosted eighth-ranked Columbia and 33rd-ranked Cornell at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. On the other hand, the women’s team, ranked 49th, traveled to New York to take on Columbia and Cornell.

The women’s team had a tough battle against Columbia, ultimately falling 3-4 in a closely contested match. However, they bounced back on Sunday with a dominant 4-1 victory over Cornell. Standout performances came from Orly Ogilvy, Rebecca Lynn, and Ann Wright Guerry, who led the team to victory.

Meanwhile, the men’s team faced defeats against both Columbia and Cornell, losing 1-6 and 3-4, respectively. Despite the losses, Senior Day was celebrated on Sunday, with Theo Dean leading the way for the Bulldogs. Dean, a standout player with numerous accolades, played his last home match and plans to pursue his master’s degree at Cal Berkeley while continuing to play tennis.

Teammates praised Dean for his leadership and impact on and off the court, highlighting his skill, friendship, and role-model qualities. The team looks to close out the regular season on a positive note as they travel to Brown next Saturday.

Overall, it was a weekend of highs and lows for Yale’s tennis teams, with both the men’s and women’s teams showing resilience and determination in their matches. The Bulldogs will now await the NCAA DI women’s tennis championship selection show to see their postseason fate.
