Buncombe High Schools Ranked in U.S. News & World Report for Western North Carolina

The new rankings for high schools in North Carolina are out, and the results are in for Western North Carolina. According to the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best High Schools in North Carolina” report for the 2024-25 school year, several schools in the region have made their mark.

Among the Asheville City Schools, the School of Inquiry and Life Sciences ranked at No. 47, while Asheville High School came in at No. 92. In Buncombe County Schools, Nesbitt Discovery Academy led the pack at No. 23, followed by Roberson High School at No. 103, Reynolds High School at No. 125, North Buncombe High School at No. 137, Owen High School at No. 167, Enka High School at No. 197, Buncombe County Early College at No. 258, and Buncombe County Schools Virtual Academy at No. 421. Erwin High School rounded out the list at No. 451-576.

Other high schools in Western North Carolina also made the rankings, with Watauga High School at No. 69, Hendersonville High School at No. 82, Brevard High School at No. 120, and many more.

The top-rated high schools in North Carolina according to the report include The Early College at Guilford in Greensboro, STEM Early College at N.C. A&T in Greensboro, and Onslow Early College in Jacksonville.

These rankings are based on factors such as college readiness, state assessment proficiency, and underserved student performance, providing valuable insights into the educational landscape of the region.
