BYU Men’s Volleyball Players Luke Benson and Miks Ramanis Receive All-American Honors

BYU junior outside hitters Luke Benson and Miks Ramanis have been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with honorable mentions in the 2024 All-American awards. The announcement was made on Monday morning, celebrating the outstanding performances of these two talented athletes.

Benson led the BYU men’s volleyball team in kills, points, and total attempts this season. With impressive stats of 297 kills, 335.5 points, and 605 total attempts, Benson showcased his skills on the court. He also earned a spot on the 2024 All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation First Team and received the MPSF Offensive Player of the Week honors twice. This marks Benson’s first-ever honor from the AVCA.

Ramanis, on the other hand, contributed significantly to the team with 239 kills, 108 digs, 24 aces, and 36 blocks. His performance, averaging 2.88 kills per set and 1.30 digs per set, earned him a spot on the 2024 All-MPSF Second Team. Ramanis was also recognized as a 2023 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American in the previous season.

In addition to the individual accolades, Daniel Fabikovic was awarded Newcomer of the Year. The titles for Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Assistant Coach of the Year will be revealed later this week at the NCAA Tournament.

Meanwhile, in other BYU sports news, the Cougar women’s tennis team has secured an invitation to the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in program history. Their first-round matchup against Auburn is scheduled for May 3, with the opportunity to advance to the second round. The team finished the regular season with 17 wins, the most since 2007, and made a strong impression in their inaugural Big 12 campaign.

Furthermore, the BYU women’s basketball team has added a new player to their roster with the transfer of 6-foot-2 forward Hattie Ogden from the University of Buffalo. Ogden brings a wealth of experience and shooting skills to the team, making her a valuable addition for the upcoming season. With her impressive track record both in college and high school, Ogden is set to make a significant impact on the Cougar’s basketball program.
