Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs Dominate Juniata Valley in Curve Invitational Game
In a stunning display of dominance, the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs defeated the Juniata Valley Green Hornets with an impressive 11-1 victory in a five-inning game at PNG Field. The Bulldogs, who have been on a hot streak lately, continued their winning ways in the first round of the Curve Invitational tournament.
Claysburg-Kimmel coach Ross Helsel expressed his confidence in the team’s performance, stating, “I am feeling really confident with the way this team is coming together. We had too many down days, but now we’re finally getting our games in, the weather is cooperating, and we’re getting better.”
The Bulldogs took an early lead with a two-run single by Brayden Haney, capitalizing on errors by the Green Hornets. Juniata Valley managed to score a run in the third inning, but the Bulldogs extended their lead in the fourth inning with a two-run triple by Mason Campagna.
Pitcher Aidan Simpson was a standout player for Claysburg-Kimmel, allowing only two hits, striking out eight, and conceding just one unearned run in the complete game. The Bulldogs improved their record to 6-7 and advanced to the semifinals of the tournament.
Despite the loss, Juniata Valley coach Jeff Hensor acknowledged his team’s shortcomings, stating, “We made three steps back today. The last seven games, we have been playing pretty good. The defense has been spot on. The pitchers have been throwing strikes and scrapping out some hits, but this was three steps backward today.”
The Bulldogs’ victory was sealed with a walk-off single by Zach Campagna, prompting a celebratory rush onto the field. Claysburg-Kimmel’s impressive performance showcased their potential as a formidable force in the tournament.
