Linsly and Morgantown Take Early Lead in OVAC Boys’ Tennis Tournament

GLEN DALE – The OVAC boys’ tennis tournament kicked off with Linsly and Morgantown taking the lead after the first day of competition at John Marshall High School. Despite the windy conditions, the teams showed their skills on the court.

In the small school team race, Linsly leads with eight points, followed by Cambridge with five points. Steubenville Catholic also scored in the 8-team field, while East Liverpool, Indian Creek, St. Clairsville, Weir, and Wheeling Central have yet to make the scoreboard.

Linsly’s Wesley Palmer and Andrew Hoang secured a title in the No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 victory over Cambridge’s Markel Villaplos and James Goggin. However, the No. 1 team duo of Luis Brulles and Jaycob Sauvageau fell in the semifinals to University’s Andrew McClellan and Kalman Nagy, who eventually won the title.

In the big school portion of the tournament, Morgantown holds a slim lead over University, with each school claiming a title. Morgantown’s Max Warner and Ronan Rogers won the No. 3 title, while University’s McClellan and Nagy secured the No. 1 title.

Dover sits in third place in the big school category, followed by Marietta, Wheeling Park, Brooke, John Marshall, and Parkersburg South. Unfortunately, Steubenville failed to score on the first day of the tournament.

Singles action is set to begin the following day, with champions to be crowned in the late afternoon. The competition is fierce, and the players are ready to showcase their talent on the court.
