Cal Hosts NCAA First and Second Rounds as No. 10 Seed

The California women’s tennis team is gearing up to host the first and second rounds of the 2024 NCAA Championship at the Hellman Tennis Complex. As the 10th seed and 10th-ranked team in the nation, the Golden Bears are excited to welcome 17th-ranked Auburn, No. 42 BYU, and Sacramento State to their home court.

Cal head coach Amanda Augustus expressed her pride in the team’s hard work and success this season, stating, “We’re a top-10 team and we’re a top-10 seed. It’s a fun time of year.” The Bears have had a strong season with an 18-6 overall record and an 8-2 Pac-12 record, earning them the No. 4 seed in the recent Pac-12 Championship.

After hosting the first weekend of the NCAA Championship in 2022, the Bears are looking forward to competing on their home turf once again. If they advance past the first and second rounds this weekend, they will move on to the NCAA Super Regional with hopes of making it to the quarterfinals in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Several Bears, including doubles pair Hannah Viller Moeller and Mao Mushika, as well as singles players Katja Wiersholm and Valentina Ivanov, are candidates for selection in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship. The team is eager to continue their success in the postseason and make a strong showing in the upcoming matches.
