Camila Giordi, Tennis Star, Allegedly Evading Authorities

Italian tennis star Camila Giorgi shocked the sports world earlier this month when she abruptly announced her retirement from tennis without any explanation. The 32-year-old, who reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2018 and was ranked as high as 26th, had been unreachable by the WTA and her family’s phone numbers were disconnected.

Speculation arose that Giorgi retired to focus on fashion and becoming a lingerie model, but she recently broke her silence on Instagram, confirming her retirement and thanking fans for their support over the years. She also hinted at “interesting opportunities” in the future.

However, controversy surrounds Giorgi as reports emerged that she, along with her family, are under investigation by the Florence Prosecutor’s Office for tax discrepancies. Investigators believe that Giorgi has fled Europe and moved to the United States.

This is not the first time Giorgi has made headlines for the wrong reasons. In 2022, she was accused of using a fake vaccination certificate to enter the Australian Open. She competed in the tournament but lost to eventual champion Ash Barty.

Giorgi’s last match was at the Miami Open last month, where she suffered a defeat to Iga Swiatek. She is now set to appear before a magistrate in Vicenza for a preliminary hearing in a case involving fake COVID vaccines administered by a doctor.
