Campus Updates: News, Sports, and Job Opportunities

Juniata College in Huntingdon is inviting stargazers of all levels to participate in Observatory Nights at the Paul E. Hickes Observatory. The open house events will take place on Mondays, April 1, 15, and 29, as well as May 6, from 8 to 10 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to use the observatory’s telescopes to observe various celestial objects, with no preregistration required. Dress warmly as the observatory is outdoors.

In other news, 1st Summit Bank has made a generous donation of $2,500 to the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Foundation. The donation will support the college’s Educational Income Tax Credit (EITC) fund, providing reduced-price class offerings for students in the ACE Program and dual enrollment. The EITC Program received $17,000 in funding in 2023, benefiting over 2,000 students.

Additionally, Kalei Carson of Imler was initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Carson is among the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors eligible for membership in the prestigious honor society.

Lastly, Juniata College and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Eastern PA Chapter will host an Out of the Darkness Walk on April 13. The event aims to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention, with activities including a DJ, food trucks, and a community art mural. Participants can register individually or as a team, with proceeds supporting suicide prevention education.
