Cannes Film Festival Announces Lineup Featuring Films by Lanthimos, Coppola, and Trump’s ‘The Apprentice’

The 77th Cannes Film Festival is set to showcase an exciting lineup of films from renowned directors, including Yorgos Lanthimos, Andrea Arnold, and Francis Ford Coppola. One of the most anticipated films is “The Apprentice,” a portrait of 1980s Donald Trump, directed by Ali Abbasi.

The festival’s artistic director, Thierry Fremaux, revealed that the selection process was rigorous, with 2,000 submissions considered. Despite concerns about the impact of last year’s strikes on American films, the lineup is filled with top international filmmakers and blockbuster hits.

Among the 19 films competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or is Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness,” starring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe. Other notable entries include Paolo Sorrentino’s “Parthenhope,” Andrea Arnold’s “Bird,” and Ali Abbasi’s “The Apprentice,” featuring Sebastian Stan as Trump.

In addition to these films, Cannes will also feature works from acclaimed directors such as David Cronenberg, Paul Schrader, and Jia Zhang-Ke. Francis Ford Coppola’s long-awaited epic, “Megalopolis,” will premiere in competition, marking the director’s return to the festival after 50 years.

The festival will kick off on May 14 with the French comedy “The Second Act,” and Greta Gerwig will head the jury that will decide the Palme d’Or winner. With a diverse lineup of films and filmmakers, this year’s Cannes promises to be a celebration of cinematic excellence and creativity.
